Increase in email landing in junk

Has anybody noticed a recent uptick in the number of outgoing emails ending up in recipients junk folders in microsoft? I use email for content marketing a lot and it’s a little disturbing how much I’m hearing back that people aren’t seeing them. And it would appear my open rates have been sluggish.


That has been the case for pretty much all email senders lately. There have been some changes in standards as well as some details around filtering out covid messages and things like that so every email sender’s platform has seen an increase in junk landings.

Are there any best tips or practices to help avoid this? Most of our campaign emails are delivering to junk/spam folders too.


This issue has been going on for quite some time.

The bounce rate and reporting are completely screwed up.

I’ve tried almost everything but obviously, nothing has been done yet.

I need to make financial decisions based on these reports…I don’t know what to do anymore.

Email inbox placement is a huge subject with literally thousands of factors that effect it. There are things you can do that will have an immediate impact and others that you can do that will only show results over time (generally about three months).

It starts with authentication (DKIM, SPF, DMARC and BIMI).

Then moves to content. A HUGE subject in and of itself.

Finally, reputation. Content effects reputation in the sense that good content encourages positives and bad content encourages negatives. Poor sender or domain reputation can have the biggest impact and take the longest to turn around.

Agreed. But something happened recently. Even email from trusted sources is going into our junk, one-to-one communication.

There are a few things that have differed lately in every email sending environment…for example, any mention of covid or even phrases like “in times like these” etc, are getting filtered by inbox providers as high chance of being spam…mostly because about 70% that do mention these things are in fact spam :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: So there are changes and factors that have happened and will be issues for a while. Unfortunately, there isn’t much that an email sender can effect that…they can only manage the sender reputation and offer the ability to connect dkim/spf correctly.

That’s good to know and probably affected us as we did a ton of covid related programming and outreach for our clients. Any suggestions for resources on digging out of the hole would be appreciated. Thanks again.
