Presenting User Notifications

Has anyone found a way to present to a user a interaction notifications to a user when they click on a button. I use a button to register a contact for a webinar so they can attend virtually. Usually this is simply a means of sending the contact info to a URL via plusthis and the like. However, I don’t want the user to continue to click the button thinking nothing has happened. I thought about a landing page but I can’t use merge fields. I thought about a webform but I can’t alter the action of the submit button.
